Secret Gardens: Free Arts & Crafts for Kids This Half Term at Ely Markets

Half term is here, and if you’re looking for something fun, free, and genuinely creative to do with the kids, we’ve got just the thing.

Local artist and Ely Markets community partner Laura Pearson-Clark is back at Ely Markets on Thursday 28 May for a special Big Draw 2026 session and this year’s theme is Secret Gardens.

Running from 10am to 2pm, this free drop-in event is perfect for anyone aged 5 and over, with no booking required. Just turn up, get creative, and see what magic you can make.

Children will get to build their very own secret garden or favourite park diorama, then model a UK wildlife character to inhabit it – think hedgehogs, sparrows, earthworms, and all the creatures that make our green spaces so special. Feeling wordy? Flip your diorama over and add a garden-inspired poem, script, or title. Finish off your masterpiece with ink stamps and washi tape, or head to the observational sketching corner to draw from a garden-themed still life.

And this one isn’t just for the kids…grown-ups are very much encouraged to get stuck in too!
