Christmas is a special time for us all here at Ely Markets. We’re committed to creating wonderful local markets that appeal to our residents and visitors alike. We are very excited for our annual Special Christmas Market on Friday 23rd December, running from 8.30 am – 3.30 pm there will be jam-packed festive stalls including crafts, food, vintage and farmers’ market stalls with seasonal gifts and entertainment. We have also launched this year Christmas mini markets on Monday 19th, Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st of December – creating a full week of festive markets. The mini-markets will run from 10am – 3pm and will host a selection of craft and food stalls on Ely Market Place.
All our regular weekly markets are very special this time of year too. Our Thursday chartered market (which has existed since the 12th century) is packed with Christmas trees, fruit wreaths, festive clothing and delicious pies and cheeses and fresh fruit and veg. We love welcoming visitors from near and far across the region every week. We have introduced our first ever night market here at Ely Markets this festive season running 4.30-8.30pm every Thursday until Christmas, which has seen brought street food, live music, mulled wine and gift shopping by fairy lights on to Ely Market Place. It’s been great to see the city come to life on a weekday evening, residents wrapping up warm and enjoying Steak and Honour burgers or Kura Kura curry and a Silver Oak Cointreau hot chocolate or espresso martini.
The Saturday Craft and Collectables market is the perfect place to buy a thoughtful unique gift. Our traders are local, independent and many of the gifts are handmade. We have something for everyone from the pet lover in your life to the mid-century-furniture collector. Plus our Street Food Aisle offers enough delicious food, cake and coffee to fuel your Christmas shopping. Audrey’s vegan mince pies truly are something worth trying (and sharing if you can resist!). Every second and fourth Saturday the Craft Market is joined by our Ely Farmers’ Market. We bring the best of fresh, local produce to town. From rare breed beef, venison and goat’s meat to artisan sausages, pork pies, preserves and pastries and locally grown vegetables. Many of the Farmers’ market traders will be at our Special Christmas Market on the 23rd and there is no better, or fresher time to stock up for Christmas.
There will be no markets on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day and our next regular markets are on Thursday 29 and Saturday 31 December.
