Ely Vegan Fair

Ely Markets are proud to announce the first in a series of events to celebrate the diversity of our market. The Ely Vegan Fair brings together familiar faces with regional and national traders. This family-friendly day is for both vegans and v-curious alike, so come along and discover an array of street food, producers, information and wellbeing.

The high street will be transformed with over 20 traders including culinary delights such as vegan scotch eggs from Food by Lizzi, flatbreads from Replete, George’s Bakery with vegan quiche and flapjacks, Gaias Kitchen vegan cheeze and indulgent cakes from Audrey’s. We’re also excited to bring incredible vegan street food to Ely including Cambridge Food and Drink Award winners The Wandering Yak. There will be a vegan bar including organic wines and covered seating too.

“We are really looking forward to our first Ely Markets Vegan Fair complementing our regular weekly markets and know that our visitors will find loads of delicious food and unique products to sample! Our vegan offering is just part of the fantastic variety of stalls we have on our markets every week! The Vegan Fair is the first of our special events on Ely Markets showcasing the diverse choice for all tastes we have all year round.” Julia Davis Ely Markets

We hope this event will put Ely Markets on the map – what the vegan traders have started here is incredibly exciting for Cambridgeshire and we look forward to a day celebrating a more conscious approach to foodie culture!

We have a really lovely quote from one of our traders Audrey’s Vegan Cakes:
‘Ely Market is a fantastic place for vegans! I’ve been welcomed with open arms by the fantastic vegan traders and it really is a lovely community of like-minded people. I’m really looking forward to the Vegan Fair, I’ll be selling all the usual favourites – chocolate cake, lemon drizzle, a range of delicious cupcakes and brownies, mini Bakewell tarts, Victoria sponge and Jaffa Cake cake…’

The Fair will run from 9-3pm on Saturday the 29th October along Ely High Street and is organised by Ely Markets as part of our programme of events – watch out for the Ely Festive Lates – Thursday late openings on the market in the run up to Christmas.

Ely Farmers’ Market

Ely Farmers’ Market  celebrates its 16th anniversary this year on Saturday 25 June.  Things have changed considerably since the first market way back at the dawn of the new millennium in 2000, for a start, the market now takes place twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Saturday, but trends and times change and visitors will discover a wide range of fresh local produce to tempt their taste buds!

We now boast a number of specifically vegan traders in our very own Ely Farmers’ Market “Vegan Alley” who are very adept at raising the profile of vegan and vegetarian lifestyles on social media – check out our Twitter feed @ElyMarkets if you want to find out more!  Not forgetting the carnivores out there, there’s also plenty to satisfy meat eaters, from prime Aberdeen Angus beef to lamb, mutton and pork from Betty’s Meats and a range of pies from local favourites Edis’s and Brockleby’s.

If you’re not already a regular visitor to Ely Markets, check out our Twitter feed for news from our Saturday Craft Market traders featuring their latest craft, retro, vintage and antique offerings!  Forget Ebay – pop and see what’s on at the market this Saturday!

Love your local market

Ely Markets is participating in the national, high profile Love Your Local Market 2016 campaign led by the National Association of British Market authorities with support from the wider markets industry and Government.

Ely Markets is joining over 1200 markets across the country by taking part in the Love Your Local Market campaign and are promoting Ely Markets as a great place to start your business. Vibrant Ely Markets is at the heart of our community and offers a chance to try out your products on one of our great weekly markets.

Ely Markets is holding a special promotion on the market on Saturday 14 May highlighting the great variety of produce and services you can find on all its markets from local seasonal fare direct from the farmer on our FARMA accredited twice monthly Farmers’ Market to artisan foods and delicious street food to go every week. In addition, there’s also all types of arts and crafts, retro and vintage artefacts, antiquarian books, clothes, shoes, antiques, collectables, coffee, cakes, plants and flowers, pet products, baby products, fresh samosas….in fact, most things you can think of, you can source at Ely Markets.

On 14 May, we are inviting would-be entrepreneurs with a product to sell – especially young people – to come and find out how you can start your business from a market stall. With loads of successful role models, from Marks & Spencer nationally to Ely Gin locally, markets are the seed bed of new businesses and we are keen to support new local enterprises.

We’ve also celebratory cakes to share and a limited number of Ely Markets shopping bags to give away to visitors to our special promotion stall on Saturday. Come along and enjoy our markets and find out how they can help you kick-start your business.

Emma Grima, Director of Commercial and Corporate Services, said: “A great market becomes the heart of every town or city. In Ely, we’re very proud of our range of markets, which together form an integral part of our community – showcasing the best of local talents, and being home to the finest local produce and craft items.

“Markets can also provide much needed platforms from which start-up companies are able to begin their business journeys. One of the joys of working with the Markets team is watching these companies develop, and we are always there to offer support along the way.

“Ely Markets is delighted to be participating in this year’s Love Your Local Market campaign, and we hope as many people as possible will help us by joining in this weekend’s celebrations.”
