Ely Markets’ Vegan Fair returns to the High Street on Saturday 29 September. This popular event is now in its third year and brings together some of the region’s most vibrant and innovative vegan streetfood and producers together with an opportunity to learn about the health and wellbeing benefits from their products.
“For such a small city, Ely has a very strong vegan community,” says Julia Davis of Ely Markets. “We’ve always supported our vegan traders and helped them find a permanent place at all our weekly markets. The Vegan Fair brings together this wonderful network of producers and stallholders in one place. We’re helping them reach a bigger audience than ever before.”
There will be a diverse range of vegan food available on the day. Sample the famous “Scotch Eggless” from Food by Lizzi for your lunch, or try exciting street food from Samu Kitchen and The Wandering Yak. The handmade vegan chocolates by Harrison Chocolatiers and delicious cakes from Audrey’s Vegan will satisfy any cravings for something sweet.
“Ely Market is now a real destination for vegan food,” says Lizzi Flaherty of Food by Lizzi. “The Vegan Fair brings all this together in one friendly event. Everyone’s welcome – old and new vegans, or just the curious!”
“You don’t have to be vegan to enjoy the fair,” says Audrey Hewerdine of Audrey’s Vegan. “We want to help non-vegans discover just how delicious this food can be. My vegan cakes are all traditional favourites – and they’re even more delicious than the originals!”
Ely Markets’ Vegan Fair will take place on Saturday 29 September from 9 am – 4 pm. The Vegan Fair will be on the High Street and the regular Saturday Craft, Food & Vintage Market will take place on the Market Place and Dolphin Lane as usual.
Ely Markets has an exciting line-up for the August bank holiday weekend. On Friday 24 August, they will be another of their popular Summer Lates with street food and live music. Then there’s the return of the special Flavours of the World Market on Saturday 25, Sunday 26 and Bank Holiday Monday.
“We’ve organised a mini-festival on Friday afternoon,” explains Julia Davis of Ely Markets. “The fun kicks off at 4pm in the Market Place and carries on until 9.30pm. Come over with your friends and family and make the most of the last Bank Holiday of the summer!”
There will be lots of delicious street food to try while you enjoy the live music at the Summer Late – everything from noodles, paella and meatballs to delicious cheesecakes. A licensed bar, henna tattoo artist, local traders and craftspeople will complete the line-up.
“Our Summer Lates are laid back and relaxed,” says Julia. “Soak up the last of the summer weather, buy some delicious food and enjoy the great live music. Enjoy a beer from Poppy Up Bar, or try the latest flavours from Ely Gin – and if you’re feeling adventurous, get one of Wild Girl Henna’s beautiful henna tattoo designs.”
It doesn’t end there. On Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday, the regular market traders will be joined by the Flavours of the World market. Ely’s Market Place and High Street will have everything from authentic North African food and French patisserie to gorgeous olives and Baltic amber jewellery.
“We already have a fabulous selection of food and gifts every week, and this bank holiday the Flavours of the World market will give you even more choice than ever,” explains Julia. “Whether it’s Mexican churros, Spanish paella, German currywurst or exotic sweets – we know you’ll find something you can’t resist.”
As well as delicious food, the Flavours of the World event also offers gifts, homewares and more. There will be beautifully scented French soaps from Marseille, lavender, scented oils and exquisite jewellery – plus handmade wooden garden furniture.
Ely Markets’ Summer Lates event will take place on Friday 24 August, from 4pm – 9.30. The Flavours of the World market takes place in Ely High Street on Saturday 25 August and in the Market Place on Sunday 26 August and Bank Holiday Monday. It runs from 8.30am until 3.30pm. Ely’s weekly Food, Craft and Farmers’ Market is open as usual on the Market Place on Saturday.
Mr Coverman is playing for us at the first of our Summer Lates this year. It’s a great way to kick off the Summer Holidays.
As well as sunshine and live music, there will be henna tattoos, children’s activities, street food, The Ely Gin Company Ltd, bar and cocktails and plenty more!!
